Lower Plenty Lakes, ALICE, BATTON HILL, HAY RIVER MADIGAN CAMP 15 Plenty Lakes This is the 4th Expedition to the Plenty Lake System, last year we didnt quite get there so we are trying a different track. Departure dates from Alice Springs: May 2nd, 2010. If you are interested in this tour, contact us to make a booking or get more information. Itinerary. Day One: Depart Alice Springs at 8:00am heading for the Plenty Highway with our destination being Jervois the last refuel before we return on Wednesday next week. After re-fuelling, we then turn off the Plenty Highway headings for the Hay River. On reaching the Hay we turn in a South south-easterly direction, camping with Lindsay Bookie at the Batton Hill Camp. Day Two: Today we head toward Lake Caroline where we reflect on the diary of Charles Winnecke and wonder in amazement at how he traveled this area on camels over 100 years ago. We pass a bore where we can replenish our water supply if necessary. This is done by lowering a small container down the hole to retrieve this precious liquid. Camp and look around South of Lake Caroline, plenty of evidence of habitation years long past.
