Journey into some of the most remote parts and stunningly beautiful of Australia. Access to the Hay River has been denied for years, now its possible.

If you want to do it with a group, here is how you go about it.

HOW TO ACCESS THE HAY  RIVER  BATTON HILL AREA, from Poeppels to Jervois

A permit is required to enter any of this area as it Aboriginal Land. This may be easier than you think. 

This is what you have to do:

  • Ring or email Direct 4wd, ask for Jol Fleming, he will contact Lindsay Bookie to OK the permit, then fax or email you a permit application form, as well as an entry / transit form.

  • Send the application to us here at Direct 4WD we will take it to the CLC in Alice, Lindsay will let them know to OK the permit.

  • The entry / transit form and payment to Direct 4WD.

  • This takes about 3 weeks, so get your application in early.

  • Pay the necessary fees into a trust account.

  • We send GPS points to you for the trip

FEES for 2008:

 

  TRANSIT FEE:   $120.00 per Vehicle.

. This is to cross through Atnetye Land down the

  Hay River

 

  CAMPING FEE: $15.00 per Person /Night

 

  MY COUNTRY TOUR: $85.00/person for a full

  day.

 

  • One stipulation that those who traverse through this Aboriginal Land are to pay a transit fee - and camp at least one night at the Batton Hill Camp.

  • If you want a The My Country Tour that is extra. We strongly recommend this tour to all that travel the Hay. It is a combination of a drive around the sights near Batton Hill, get so find bush tucker if there is any. Sunset on The Meesa is a must (clouds permitting) follows by a chat around the camp fire.

  • GPS points are supplied for the trip from QAA / K1 line intersection.
