Plenty River Lakes

Journey to one of the most remote parts of Australia. Access to the Colson Track has been denied for years. Now its possible (still working on it). Join us on the memorable trip to explore the area along this track, part of the Madigan Line the Plenty River Lakes, across to Batton Hill via Lake Caroline . We will be Exploring some of Australia's most remote places, be on the first of its kind.  Departure date from Alice Springs:  April 27 - May 9,  2008.

If you are looking for a smooth highway, this isn’t the trip. It rough out there, but if approached properly is a great journey. Traveling through three different aboriginal lands, with the possibility of the Traditional owners coming with us will give you an insight into 'their land'. At least two of the custodian are interested. Its a great thing to get Aboriginal Traditional owners interested in tourism, as it will lead the way for others to follow suit, so we can get to see some more of the remote parts of this great country.

Proposed Trip goes like this.

Day One: Sunday 27th April, 2008.  All packed ready to go, assemble at Jol’s work,  head off in convoy heading along the Ross Hwy till the Numery Turnoff then west along the MacDonnell Ranges, till we get to Numery Stn on the edge of the Desert.

Here we pick up the Colson track heading for Madigan’s Camp 5, overnight about 4.00pm.

Day Two:  Up and on the road, by half past eventually on the Madigan Track which will slow us down quite considerably. Rocking and rolling over the dunes and Spinifex clumps put a whole new meaning to off road travel. Camp around 4.30pm.

Hopefully we can travel a little quicker than the camels of Madigan, don’t be surprised if we cant. Camp some where around the Illawaga Creek.

Day Three: Rock n Roll again heading for Camp 8, more dunes and Spinier.

Day Four: Turn off the Madigan Line heading up the swales for the bottom of the Plenty River Lakes. There is no track here, so we will make one.

Day Five: Arrive at the Lakes, looking for a good camp site for a couple of nights

Day Six: look about the lakes, there are signs of aboriginal inhabitance from long ago, I’d like to find some more. (anything we find we leave there)

Day Seven: Look about the lakes

Day Eight: Sunday 4th May. Move through the lakes heading for the Plenty River Camp somewhere along the River. Once we hit the Plenty River there is a good track, back into High Range for a change. We will have a fuel dump here with 20L available.

Day Nine: Over the dunes to Lake Caroline, camp Lake Caroline.

Day Ten: Lake Caroline to Lindsay’s Batton Hill Bush Camp Showers, push button toilets!!

Day Eleven: Look about Lindsay’s

Day Twelve: Thursday 8th May, 2008 – Head for Alice.

Cost of this trip, including camping fees at Batton Hill and Transit Fees through Lands of three different aboriginal groups $1350.00 per vehicle.
